K-8 Academics
Dear Fostering Leadership Academy Families,
Welcome to the Hawk Family! As we embark on this new school year, our mission remains steadfast: to build a remarkable neighborhood school that embraces a whole-child approach to education. Our goal is to ensure that each student is well-prepared for success in college, career, and life.
This year, we are excited to introduce several new initiatives that will enhance our students’ educational experience and strengthen our current offerings:
● School Store: We are adding a student-run school store that will be open during lunch. Students will have the
opportunity to purchase additional treats to enjoy with their lunch for a small fee. This is a great way to promote
responsibility, build leadership skills, and give students a fun new option at lunchtime!
● Aftercare Program through 21st Century Grant: Our free aftercare program will continue to offer academic
support and enrichment activities, while continuing to provide dinner for participating students.
● Tier 2 Literacy Launch (Grades 3–8): Purposeful, teacher-led small-group skill development will be integrated
into class time to boost literacy growth.
● Eighth Grade Academic Support Aligned with PSAT Standards: With the addition of a dedicated Math Lab
and Winword Academy, our students will be better prepared to excel on the PSAT in both Math and ELA.
In addition, we are strengthening our commitment to the Habits of Excellence by increasing student voice through the creation of a Student Council. We will also be placing a strong focus on improving school attendance by enhancing communication, building a stronger sense of community, and working alongside families to overcome potential roadblocks.
As a Child-Centered Organization, all CEN Schools will continue to implement a bell-to-bell policy, ensuring a
phone-free and personal electronic device–free environment during the school day. This policy is designed to support our academic mission and promote student wellness by reducing distractions both in and out of the classroom.
We look forward to a year filled with growth, achievement, and community. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in fostering a successful and enriching educational experience for all our students.
Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead!
Warmly,
Jessica Hamel
